Well I would like to introduce you to our Island Ministry.  It is based from Llwejje Island in Lake Victory.  We have a church of about 50 people and primary school of about 210 children.  The ministry has been going for years Sylvester Achillawith WOMF.  A couple of years ago I asked a dear Ugandan friend of mine to go and help oversee the island ministry there.  Well Sylvester Achilla is not one that was brought up around water.  Matter of fact he is a Karmojong from the far north of Uganda.  He was raised to be a cattleman not a fisherman.  He has become a fisherman of men.

Without any questions Sylvester boarded a boat and went to the island.  He has done a great job.  Since his arrival he has built up the local church and moved out to other islands to help start and support churches.  We currently are in partnership with 15 churches on the islands.  He has a heart to help the disparate people of the islands.  They are true fisherman and live a rough life.

Sylvester and the churches have been holding medical outreaches and training seminars for the island pastors.  It has become a desire of Sylvester to open a center for ISOM Bible College in the islands.  The material is video based and one of the projects I was able to complete a few years ago was the translation of that material into Luganda, a local language.

To be able to start the training school he need a TV and DVD player.  The total cost would be $250 to start this new ministry in the islands.  Sylvester is a graduate of ISOM and had been a facilitator for us in our Masaka Bible College using ISOM.  So he is very versed with the material.

If anyone can help out please make a donation at WOMF by clicking here.  Please make sure you designate the funds for Island Ministry – ISOM.

Thanks,

Scott

Our unpacking is almost complete.  Brenda and the kids have been troopers.  Now that we are to this stage 5 days after arrival we have made progress in the middle fighting colds, visitors, and having meetings.  Now that Bethany has clothes unpacked she keeps asking to wear her “new clothes”.  So it is a new outfit every hour or so.

One item that we unpacked was the digital video camera that Brenda’s brother gave us.  The idea is to start producing more videos to post on the internet.  So one of my first projects involves setting up a video editing computer.  Go figure me and a computer project.  Well some one has to do it.  (Most of the rest of this post gets a bit technical.  I am warning those not technical now.)

To get our videos going I am resurrecting David’s old Gateway computer for this use.  So far I have found that the DVD drive was dead and the network ports are dead.  I fixed the DVD drive issue by getting a new DVD drive for the machine but I am running around trying to find a network card to use in the machine.  We used to have hundreds of them years ago when we had the computer colleges but for some reason I can find any today.  I am sure they are somewhere in this country.

My hope is to take this used Gateway duo-core machine and put on Ubuntu Studio with K-den-live on it.  I have been able to test Ubuntu and K-den-live out on my laptop using Virtual Box and it works great.  I would use my laptop but it does not have the firewire port to get the video off the camera.  Also I am concerned for the resource use of the laptop with Virtual Box and the video processing.

So I spent all of Monday doing this setup in-between unpacking and meetings.  It was a full tiring day.  Jet lag is slowly going away.  The Nate and Beth are finally sleeping through the night thus so are Brenda and I.

Again thanks for your prayers and support!

Well today two of the 4 things we asked for prayer for have come to pass.  First within an hour of asking for prayer it started to rain and we received a good amount of water.  The second is our lost bag has been found and returned to us with everything in it still.

Thank you Lord!

After two flights of about 9 hours each and a lay-over of almost 10 hours, we have made it to Uganda.  You would figure that we would be used to the travel after these years.  I don’t think anyone would ever get used to jet lag.

We all were fighting last minute colds except Nate and Beth.   They didn’t sleep much until the second flight to Uganda.  Nate crashed and sleep almost the whole flight.  Beth started a asleep but due to two children in front of us not liking the flight she had an interrupted sleep.  I think Brenda is the best wife and mother ever.  She went with not much sleep and spent her time with Beth.  Brenda even had the child in front of her vomit through the space in the chairs on her leg.  She didn’t get upset.  She gave the mom baby wipes to help clean up the mess.

It finally hit me that we were going home when we were over the Libyan Desert.  I started to pray and count the faithful things of God in our ministry and lives.  When we landed it was a bit muggy and storm clouds were building.  By the time we got in the vehicles to head home it started to storm and rain.  Our driver, Enoch, told me that there had been no rain for weeks.  This was the first rain he had seen.

We went straight to the guest house and had cinnamon rolls that Ester made for us.  We also saw Ron and Shirley as they were heading a team from Virginia out to Mitooma for crusade.  They looked good and ready for the trip.

The one thing we noticed in Seguku was that it was so dry and dusty.  The rain had not reached Seguku.

After our breakfast we got home, finally.  We started to unpack and greet friends and co-workers.  The house was clean and so nicely prepared for us by Roger and Maureen.  It was the nicest we have found it coming home.

We found that we had about 100 gallons of water for the house.  That was quickly used for bathing, toilets, and some cleaning.  We are praying that the rain reaches us in Seguku.  We have about 12 hours until we need water.  If it doesn’t rain then we will have spend an extra $100 we didn’t plan on to get enough water to last about 5 days.

It is about 3am while I am writing this.  I am noticing mistakes due to lack of sleep and jet-lag.  Beth and Nate have been playing and watching movies since 10pm.  I was tagged for watch duty at 12:30am so that the rest of the family could sleep well.

So please pray for the following in the next few days:

  1. We get rain for water.
  2. We get over jet-lag quickly and adjust so we can get on with normal life here.
  3. Our colds end immediately.  It is hard to travel sick and have jet-lag sick.
  4. Our one lost luggage is found and delivered on Friday.

Blessings and thanks to all who have supported us in prayer and finances!

Dear Friends and Family,

As we prepare for our return to Uganda on August 9th, 2010 we need your help.  We are planning on being in Uganda for the next 2 years.  This requires a lot.  We need your help to make the next two years successful.

We have needs in two areas.  The first is with our monthly financial support and the second is basic needs for the family.

Due to the economic situation in America we have not been able to meet our monthly financial needs.  We are $1200 short of our goal per month.  We are getting on the plane to go to Uganda no matter what.  However if our goal is not meet then that means we will not be as effective as we should be.

If you can help us by supporting us $20, $50 or $100 (even $1200) a month then we can make our next two years very successful.   If you can help then click here.  This link will allow you to set up a monthly support amount for our ministry.  You just check the Volz Family and enter a one time amount or create an account to set up a monthly support amount to help us.  Again click here to help us in this manner.

If you want to send us a check you can do that here:

Please make checks payable WOMF and send to:

World Outreach

Ministries Foundation

PO Box 23267

Federal Way, WA 98093-0267

Please indicate the Volz Family on your check.  This is all tax deductible!

The second need is with our basic needs.  We need everything from clothes to toothpaste.  If you can send a one time donation to WOMF for us for this need that would help.  You can do it by clicking here.  Please select the Volz family and the amount.  This is tax deductible.  You can even send us gift cards for Target or Walmart to the above address.  In doing this it is not tax deductible, sorry.  However it would help us and bless us tremendously.

So we do need your help and these are the ways you can assist us.  Please remember we leave on August 9th.  So if you can help please do so by that date.

Thank you for your support and care!

Scott, Brenda, David, Sarah, Matthew, Nathanael, and Bethany Volz
